Dynamic Aerial Base Station Placement for Minimum-Delay Communications

Queuing delay is of essential importance in the Internet-of-Things scenarios where buffer sizes devices are limited. The existing cross-layer research contributions aiming at minimizing queuing usually rely on either transmit power control or dynamic spectrum allocation. Bearing mind that transmission throughput dependent distance between transmitter and receiver, this context we exploit agility unmanned-aerial-vehicle (UAV)-mounted base stations (BSs) for proactively adjusting aerial BS (ABS)’s placement accordance with wireless teletraffic dynamics. Specifically, formulate a minimum-delay ABS problem UAV-enabled networks, subject to realistic constraints ABS’s battery life velocity. Its solutions technically realized under three different assumptions regard backward induction technique invoked both scenario full knowledge dynamics available, case only their statistical available. In contrast, reinforcement learning aided approach when neither exact number arriving packets nor numerical results demonstrate our proposed algorithms capable improving system’s performance compared benchmark schemes terms average overflow probability.
